ScapeCalc

Accessibility

ScapeCalc aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This is a goal, not a certified result: the site has not had an independent audit.

Updated October 24, 2026

What the site is built to do

  • Every input has a visible label, and units are part of the label or the field.
  • Results are announced to screen readers when they change, without announcing every keystroke.
  • Errors are shown as text next to the field, never by color alone.
  • Text meets WCAG AA contrast in both the light and dark themes, and buttons are large enough to tap.
  • Pages reflow on narrow phone screens and when zoomed, without sideways scrolling.
  • Motion is kept to a minimum and turned off when your device asks for reduced motion.

Using a keyboard

  • Tab and Shift+Tab move between links, fields and buttons. The focus outline is always visible.
  • The first Tab on each page shows a “Skip to content” link.
  • In the shape picker, the arrow keys choose a shape. Pressing Enter in a field never submits or clears anything.
  • Adding an area moves focus to the new area; removing one moves focus to the next area and announces the change.
  • The button in the header switches between light and dark. With nothing chosen, the site follows your device setting.

How it was checked

Before launch, every page was checked on October 23, 2026 with the axe-core automated rules (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2, A and AA) in both themes at phone and desktop widths, with no issues found, and the calculator was used from start to finish with a keyboard only. Automated tools find only some problems. The site has not yet been tested with a screen reader by a disabled user or audited by a third party.

Known limits

  • The calculators need JavaScript. Without it, the formulas, tables and explanations stay readable.
  • Shape diagrams are drawings. Each one has a text description, and the measuring steps are also written out.

Report a problem

If something is hard to use, email contact@scapecalc.com with the page and what happened. Mention your browser and any assistive technology you use, if you're comfortable sharing that. Reports are read, and fixes are listed in the change log when they affect a calculator.
