ScapeCalc

Buy the right amount the first time

ScapeCalc works out how much landscaping material a job needs: the number of bags by size, the cubic yards for a bulk order, and what each option costs once you enter prices. It is free, needs no account, and shows its working.

For homeowners and gardeners planning a weekend job, and for landscapers, contractors and anyone ordering material for a play area.

What every calculator does

  • Every shape in one estimate

Rectangles, circles, rings around trees, triangles and borders around a lawn, or a total area you already know. Add as many areas as the job has and get one total.

  • Bags and bulk, side by side

Bags of each size, rounded up, next to cubic yards rounded to your supplier’s order step. Add prices and a delivery fee to see which costs less for this job.

  • Numbers you can check

Depths and safety guidance cite government and university extension sources. Every formula, default and source is published, with the date it was checked.

How it works

  1. Measure each area in feet, or in meters if you prefer metric.

  2. Pick a depth. Suggested depths for beds, trees and home play sets show their source.

  3. Read the bags and cubic yards as you type. Purchase amounts round up; the exact figure is shown too.

  4. Add prices if you like, then share, print or add the result to your shopping list.

Results are estimates. Products and site conditions vary, so check quantities with your supplier before you buy. See the methodology for every formula, default and source.
