About
ScapeCalc is an independent website of calculators for landscaping and yard materials. Each calculator tells you how much material to buy for a job and what it will cost.
Who it is for
Homeowners and gardeners planning a bed, a path or a play area; landscapers and contractors who need a quick quantity for a quote; and anyone ordering material for a play space. The calculators work in feet and inches or in meters and centimeters, on a phone or a computer, with no account.
Why it exists
Many material calculators give cubic yards or a bag count, and some take a price, but few put the whole buying decision on one page: how many bags of this size, whether a bulk delivery is cheaper once the fee is added, and how much extra to allow for settling. ScapeCalc answers those questions on one page, for one area or a whole yard.
What is available now
- Mulch Calculator: Bags, cubic yards and cost for one bed or a whole yard, with bag vs bulk side by side.
Planned, one at a time: Cubic Yard Calculator, Topsoil Calculator, Raised Bed Soil Calculator, Concrete Calculator, Gravel Calculator, Crusher Run Calculator. None of these is available yet. Each is added only after its formulas and sources have been checked.
How calculations are checked
- Every formula and constant is listed on the methodology page, with its source and the date it was checked.
- Depths and safety guidance come from government agencies and university extension services. Bag sizes and product weights come from retailer and product listings, and are labeled that way. Where products differ, the range is shown.
- Values with no published standard, such as a waste allowance, are labeled "ScapeCalc default" and can be changed.
- Each calculator is tested against worked examples that you can repeat by hand, and against at least one published example.
- Purchase quantities always round up, and the unrounded figure is shown next to them.
- A "Last reviewed" date appears on a calculator only after an actual review.
What ScapeCalc doesn't do
- No supplier deals and no paid rankings. No company pays to be mentioned or to change a result.
- No accounts and no sign-up. Your shopping list stays in your own browser.
- No advertising cookies today. If ads are added later, the privacy policy will say so first.
- No advice beyond the sources. Safety questions, such as playground surfacing or structural work, point to the manufacturer or a professional.
